#1 – Start Top Down



The first goal setting workshop exercises we recommend you run, is starting big and then coming in small.


By starting big, we mean by starting at the top – what is their vision, ideal results and outcomes.


What do they want to achieve for not only themselves sin your business setting, but what vision do they have for their personal lives?


By starting at the finish line, they’ll be able to track backwards and identify the various milestones they’ll need to achieve to get there.


Furthermore – when goal setting the big vision, ensure your team doesn’t just keep the conversation logical.


Human beings are emotional creatures, and all our thoughts and what drives us comes from a place of emotion.


Our goal setting workshop should focus on both logical and emotional reasons as to why we want to achieve our goals in the first place. What will it mean when we achieve them?



#2 – What Does Success Look Like?



Another great goal setting workshop exercise, is coming in with a clear agenda, yet keeping the question very simple – what does success look like?


Although one simple question – the answers to this can be very broad.


Not only does this work as an excellent group discussion; it’ll also show each team member the perspective of others, and how the definition of success can have multiple meanings to different people.


This is a great goal setting workshop activity, because it bonds people together, and breaks away any assumptions we may have about others.



#3 – The Perfect Day



The perfect day is a common yet effective goal setting workshop exercise when you want participants to think about the repetitive tasks and goals they need to achieve regularly.


By asking participants about what their perfect day would look like, they can identify the issues they face on a daily base that are preventing them from achieving the bigger goals and outcomes they need to reach.


By identifying these issues, they can then set other goals to either delegate, or put a stop to them by implementing a process to fix these issues at the root cause.


Are the issues people based, or perhaps a bad process that needs tweaking?


The perfect day exercise may be bottom of the goal setting funnel focused, but it can help you identify the negative things that may seem small – but have a larger impact.



#4 – One Year From Now



Another popular and effective goal setting workshop exercise is the one year from now discussion.


When our goals are too far in the future – people have a natural tendency to put them off, because they assume that they’ll have time to get it done later.


Unfortunately, another year passes – and we realise that we’re in the exact same place.


The one year from now exercise is a good goal setting workshop exercise because it isn’t too far off into the future and allows participants to quickly identify and breakdown what needs to happen each month to make their outcome a reality.



#5 – What Do I Want To Be Remembered For



Finally, one of our favourite goal setting workshop exercises, is the what I want to be remembered for question.


As previously mentioned human beings are emotional creatures, and the best way to ask people to set goals is to anchor them with an emotional reason.


By asking what you want to be remembered for, it’ll give you and your participants to write out the things that are important for you, and what you have to do to feel like you’ve lived a life worth living.


This is a powerful exercise and will have you and your participants following through on goals even in the most unmotivated of times.
